Top 10 Georgia Bulldogs Teams of All Time

Top 10 Georgia Bulldogs Teams of All Time

1. 2022 Georgia Bulldogs (15–0, National Champions)

Going undefeated in the SEC is rare. Winning back-to-back titles in this era? Near impossible. But the 2022 Dawgs made it look routine. With Stetson Bennett playing like a Heisman finalist and the offense steamrolling through ranked teams, UGA capped it off with a 65–7 demolition of TCU—setting the record for largest margin of victory in a bowl game. Future NFL stars like Jalen Carter, Brock Bowers, James Cook, and plenty of others helped the Bulldogs dominate college football.

2. 2021 Georgia Bulldogs (14–1, National Champions)

This team didn’t just win a natty—they broke a curse. Georgia’s 41-year title drought ended with one of the greatest defenses in college football history. Jordan Davis, Nakobe Dean, and Travon Walker headlined a squad that allowed just 10.2 points per game and produced five first-round picks. Kelee Ringo’s pick-six to seal it against Bama was cathartic, unforgettable, and historic. This team didn’t just win—they made Dawg fans believe again.

3. 1980 Georgia Bulldogs (12–0, National Champions)

The team that started it all. Herschel Walker burst onto the scene as a freshman and ran Georgia all the way to the national title, racking up over 1,600 yards in just 12 games. The defense held strong, and the Dawgs pulled off gritty wins over Florida and Notre Dame. For decades, this team was the gold standard. Every Georgia fan over 40 remembers this one like it was yesterday.

4. 2002 Georgia Bulldogs (13–1, SEC Champions)

This team broke a 20-year conference title drought and put Mark Richt’s program on the national map. David Greene was calm under pressure, Musa Smith ran with purpose, and David Pollack led a smothering defense. They shut out four opponents, finished top-3 in the AP poll, and gave Dawg fans their first real taste of championship football in the modern era.

5. 2017 Georgia Bulldogs (13–2, SEC Champions, CFP Runner-Up)

Kirby’s breakthrough year. This team brought the juice back to Athens with Nick Chubb and Sony Michel dominating the ground, Roquan Smith leading a vicious defense, and true freshman Jake Fromm managing big-time moments. The Rose Bowl win over Oklahoma is one of the most legendary games in the history of college football. If a few unlucky plays go their way vs. Alabama in the natty, they’re holding the trophy.

6. 1942 Georgia Bulldogs (11–1, National Champions via AP)

Wartime or not, this team was a powerhouse. Led by Heisman winner Frank Sinkwich and future legend Charley Trippi, the Dawgs scored 378 points in just 12 games. They’re recognized as national champs by the AP and are one of the great pre-modern squads. Old school dominance, future Hall of Famers, and major historical weight.

7. 2007 Georgia Bulldogs (11–2, Sugar Bowl Champions)

Hot finish. Huge talent. Knowshon Moreno, Matthew Stafford, and a nasty defense caught fire down the stretch—smashing Florida, wrecking Auburn, and embarrassing Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl. They finished No. 2 in the AP poll and were arguably the best team in the country by season’s end. It’s the “what if” year fans still talk about. If only there was a real playoff back then.

8. 2012 Georgia Bulldogs (12–2, SEC East Champs)

Just two yards away from playing Notre Dame for a national title. Aaron Murray had a career year, Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall formed "Gurshall," and Jarvis Jones terrorized offenses every weekend. The SEC Championship vs. Alabama was a classic—and one of the greatest “almost” wins in program history.

9. 2019 Georgia Bulldogs (12–2, Sugar Bowl Champs)

No flash, just defense. This team gave up just 12.6 points per game and sent a ton of talent to the NFL. Jake Fromm managed the offense, D’Andre Swift led the backfield, and Kirby’s machine kept humming. This was the foundation year for what came in 2021. Quiet, consistent, and loaded.

10. 2023 Georgia Bulldogs (13–1, Orange Bowl Champs)

No playoff, no problem. Carson Beck stepped in, the Dawgs stayed elite, and the team made a statement by destroying Florida State 63–3 in the Orange Bowl. With Brock Bowers, Ladd McConkey, and a deep, talented defense, this squad proved the dynasty isn’t slowing down—just reloading.
